Spring Plays Key Role as Application Framework for BEA WebLogic Server 10
ANTWERP, Belgium—SPRINGONE CONFERENCE 2007—June 20, 2007—Interface21, a leading provider of trusted open source software for building and deploying mission-critical enterprise applications, today announced that BEA has built critical parts of BEA WebLogic® Server 10 around the Spring Framework. Launched in April 2007, WebLogic Server 10 is the first major production-ready application server certified and available for production use against the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5. Increasingly deployed as a central component in enterprise Java architectures, the Spring Framework is an application framework used by thousands of enterprises worldwide.
Spring Portfolio project Pitchfork was utilized in WebLogic Server 10 and helped BEA to rapidly deliver a Java EE 5 compliant product. Collaboratively developed by Interface21 and BEA, Pitchfork implements EJB 3.0 interception and JSR-250 injection on top of the Spring Framework and is used inside the WebLogic Server 10 EJB container and other parts of the server. As a result, WebLogic Server customers can extend their Java EE 5 applications with more advanced Spring functionality, blending the latest standards-based enterprise code with the simplicity and power of Spring. Additionally, Spring Framework users can use Java EE 5 standard features in their development.
Additional significant features and benefits of the integration include:
- Deployment of Spring beans in a WebLogic Server cluster;
- Spring session replication, piggybacking on WebLogic HTTP session replication;
- WebLogic security integration with Spring-managed beans;
- WebLogic-based clustered remoting of Spring-managed beans;
- Management of Spring beans in the WebLogic Server administration console.
“The integration of Spring with WebLogic Server 10 highlights BEA's commitment to empowering developers to seamlessly mix and match the best of both open source and commercial solutions, and was a critical factor in helping WebLogic Server 10 get to market quickly,” said Peter Cooper Ellis, executive vice president of products at BEA. “The lightweight nature of the Spring Framework coupled with its ability to help simplify the creation of next-generation enterprise Java applications makes it an ideal complementary technology to WebLogic 10.”
“Interface21’s continued product development relationship with BEA can benefit Spring and WebLogic users alike, helping to enable enterprises to build and deploy applications with the highest quality, highest productivity frameworks and runtime environments,” said Rod Johnson, founder and CEO, Interface21. “This integration with WebLogic 10 is designed to provide further enhanced potential for greater productivity, testability and power for our joint customer base.”
BEA is a gold sponsor at SpringOne, June 20-22, Antwerp, Belgium.
