SpringSource Apache Tomcat Expert Seminar Series Completes Sold-out World Tour

More than 1,000 IT Operations Personnel, Engineers and Developers Learn from the Experts about Optimizing and Managing Tomcat in Production

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SpringSource, the company behind Spring, the de facto standard in enterprise Java, and a leading provider of application infrastructure software, recently organized a worldwide Tomcat Expert Seminar Series that ended last week in San Francisco, Calif. More than 1,000 developers, engineers and users of Apache Tomcat attended the series with sold out shows in all global locations. Attendees represented a wide selection of well-known companies including Johnson & Johnson, UBS, Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of France, Southwest Airlines, British Telecom, State Farm, John Deere, Wells Fargo and Walmart, among many others.

“As an avid Tomcat user, I found the seminar to be extremely helpful,” said Brad Bice, system administrator for Datatel, Inc., a leading provider of technology solutions and professional business services to higher education. “The part I found to be most useful was the tutorial on how to maximize Tomcat scalability and reliability in my production environment.”

The series passed through nine cities worldwide, catering to the significant popularity of Apache Tomcat, the world’s most widely used application server. According to a recent Evans Data research study, nearly 70-percent of participants said Apache Tomcat was in production within their organizations. Each seminar featured SpringSource’s Filip Hanik, who is a leading committer to the Apache Tomcat project and a member of the Apache Software Foundation.

“Tomcat users, whether IT operations professionals or developers, are eager to learn from each other, as shown by the overwhelming success of our approach with the series,” said Mark Brewer, senior vice president of enterprise delivery at SpringSource. “Given SpringSource’s deep expertise, we are committed to supporting Tomcat’s user base and providing whatever guidance we can to developers and IT operations managers on how to best use Tomcat in a wide variety of enterprise environments. In this case, the seminar focused on various topics, ranging from management of large, distributed Tomcat deployments to troubleshooting Tomcat in high-scale production environments.”

SpringSource has established a leadership position supporting the expanding use of Tomcat within enterprises. Over the past two years, SpringSource employees were responsible for 80 percent of the commits to Apache Tomcat. Most Tomcat problem incidents are resolved by SpringSource long before they reach the community forums, resulting in a 97 percent renewal rate for the company’s Tomcat support and making SpringSource the industry’s leading Tomcat support provider.

SpringSource recently introduced SpringSource tc Server, an enterprise version of Apache Tomcat, hardened for enterprise use and coupled with key operational capabilities, advanced diagnostics and backed by mission-critical support.

Due to the overwhelming success of the seminar series, SpringSource is planning a second series of seminars worldwide, which will be held in the Asia-Pacific region, the United States and Europe. Please visit http://www.springsource.com/events and watch for upcoming details.
