SpringSource Elected to Java Community Process Executive Committee Alongside SAP, Ericsson, Nokia, Philips and IBM

SAN MATEO, Calif.—October 28, 2008 – SpringSource, a leading provider of infrastructure software and the company behind Spring, the de facto standard in enterprise Java, today announced that SpringSource CEO Rod Johnson has been elected to the Java Community Process (JCP) Executive Committee (EC). Industry heavyweights SAP, Ericsson, Nokia, Philips and IBM were elected along with SpringSource.  SpringSource received nearly 80 percent of the vote for membership.

The inclusion of SpringSource in the EC marks an important change and opportunity in enterprise Java. Through Spring, SpringSource has eradicated vast swaths of complexity from enterprise Java and is now able to work on behalf of the entire Java community to influence the JCP.

EC members guide the evolution of the Java technologies by approving and voting on all technology proposals. They are also responsible for defining the JCP's rules of governance and the legal agreement between members and the organization. They provide guidance to the Program Management Office (PMO) and they represent the interests of the JCP to the broader community.

“I am honored to be elected to the JCP Executive Committee and applaud the group for recognizing the importance of Spring and for being open to new and fresh ideas,” said Johnson. “SpringSource has worked tirelessly to improve enterprise Java. Now, we can work to bring further innovation, openness and Java community input to the JCP. We cannot be complacent and will need to make bold decisions to ensure that enterprise Java provides simplicity and flexibility that users demand, along with the power and enterprise capabilities for which it is known.”

Since the release of his first book Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and Development in 2002, Rod Johnson and SpringSource have been a driving force in making Java simpler, better and more adaptable for today's application developers. Spring is now the most widely used enterprise Java application platform and has transformed enterprise Java.  SpringSource recently announced that job listings for Java developers with Spring expertise now exceed listings specifying Oracle WebLogic and IBM WebSphere backgrounds.

Additionally, cumulative downloads for Spring have surpassed the three million milestone on SourceForge with more than five million estimated total downloads worldwide across all download sources. SpringSource has grown 250 percent year-over-year in quarterly bookings and has more than doubled revenue growth for the third consecutive year.
