APA-001: Tomcat Administration Fundamentals Syllabus
Day 1 Getting Started with Tomcat
In the morning of Day 1 you will get an overview of Tomcat, the Apache Software Foundation behind Tomcat and learn how to understand the different versions of Tomcat and the release process that the project follows.
With the bigger picture covered, you will then learn how to grab the latest distribution from the Apache Software Foundation and how to get Tomcat setup and running with the right JDK and JRE versions for a given environment. Once the basics are under your belt you'll take a look at how Tomcat installation and management scales across large scale deployments.
In the afternoon of Day 1 you will take a tour through the standard HTTP protocol and the features of that protocol that Tomcat needs to support in order to be a true HTTP server.
Upon completion of Day 1 you will understand how to install and configure Tomcat and have as deeper understanding of how Tomcat works under the hood. This knowledge then lays the foundation for Day 2.
Day 2 Configuration and application deployment
Day 2 is all about getting closer to how Tomcat functions within the bounds of the HTTP protocol and how it provides a web container for your standard web applications. In the morning you'll learn all about standard JSP and Servlet web applications and how those can be configured and executed within the Tomcat environment that you set up on Day 1.
To bring the course to a close, in the afternoon you'll take a deep dive through a number of more advanced configuration options that will help you understand how you can optimize your own Tomcat installations to achieve optimal performance in your web applications.
